Welcome! I’m so glad you’re here. I am always on the go and enjoy gardening, baking, and taking pictures. I love a good book and a cup of black coffee, a travel podcast and a glass of wine, or a refreshing glass of lemonade after a swim.

I move often and I submerge myself wherever I am planted- hence unrooted and blooming. I have had an array of jobs: social worker, retail, housesitter, yoga teacher, payroll specialist, writer, dog watcher, ESL teacher, 2nd hand seller…and…and…and. I’ve house hacked-rented out my home furnished, and moved to SE Asia on a whim.

I like to find the beauty in everything around me, from the smell of freshly washed laundry to a perfect chocolate cake, when a friend doesn’t shy away when life gets messy and a colorful weed in an otherwise “perfect” lawn.

Take a look at my gallery, read about my adventures, check out some recipes, and tell me what you’re up to.

  • Mindful Consumption

We’ve come a long way from the days of using things up. When was the last time you mended socks? I never have. I am frugal when it comes to spending to begin with and will wear things for years and years. But I am not a fan of mending holes or wearing things with […]

  • Food Frugality

I tried to get on the coupon craze years ago. I remember seeing people on the news who would pay a fractional amount for their groceries. I attempted to coupon- searching the circulars for the best price, tracking prices on my regular purchases, making a list keeping coupons in mind and driving to several stores […]

  • Small Town Christmas Celebration

Last night I went to my rural town’s Christmas tree lighting. It’s the type of event I loved as a child and one that I thought was too small town as a teen. In 2019, I celebrated Christmas in Vietnam, where it was warm and raining and only the big touristy hotels had Christmas trees. […]

  • How to Avoid Putting Christmas on a Credit Card

Several years ago, I was searching for the cheapest flights to visit my family for the holidays. We all lived in different states and the time. which meant that the majority of us had to pay for travel. Then presents. Speaking with a co-worker, she said that she felt compelled to buy presents for her […]

  • Spend Time in Nature

With the change in weather, projects have slowed down quite a bit and I’ve gotten a chance to get outside more frequently. It’s been amazing to explore and breathe in the crisp, cool air. I prefer warmer weather, but I love the look of a stormy sky and the changing leaves. Rushing spring-time waterfalls are […]

  • Winter Checklist for Our Home

Winter isn’t coming, my friends. It’s here. We miraculously got the concrete poured for our garage remodel and got the walls us. Just in time for the torrential downpours. We’ve done a lot of big upgrades this year, from getting new gutters (with a cash discount) that are bigger than the originals so they’ll have […]

  • How to Lower Your Cell Phone Bill

If you’re not using an MVNO, you’re likely paying too much for your cell phone bill. Don’t feel bad- I did it for years, too. Then I heard about MVNOs which use the regular towers/satellites/tech and phones that all of the big-name expensive companies. They just do it for a fraction of the cost. Years […]

  • Buy Yourself a Boquet

It’s been busy here at our house! Our garage remodel is coming along and we’ve been busy preparing for winter. I was able to get out for a short walk in a state park last week and I’ll do a longer post on that soon, but I mostly just wanted to share some pictures today. […]

  • House Projects

It’s been a long few days. On Thursday, we had someone remove insulation covered in mouse droppings from our attic. He rolled and bagged the insulation and I took the bags outside and loaded them on a trailer. He filled over forty construction bags. Thankfully, we had set up a plastic barrier around the attic […]

  • How to Create a Lasting Morning Practice

As a child, I thought it was strange that my mom set her alarm to wake up before anyone else. She’d sit in silence- in the living room if it was cold or on the back deck during warmer weather- and sip her coffee. She wouldn’t read the newspaper or watch the news. This was […]
